Fears & Phobias- How Hypnosis Can Dramatically Decrease Their Effect on You

Updated: Jan 31

We’re all born with a fear of falling and loud noises, but what about all of the other ones we acquire throughout life? They aren’t inherent to us, they are learned. And just like anything else we can learn, we can unlearn. Some very common fears are loss, rejection, failure, success, pain and intimacy. It’s even been proven that the fear of public speaking is recorded at a higher rate than the fear of death.

We can always trace back our fear to a given incident. Maybe we were bullied, broken up with or bitten by a dog. This is when we learned to be afraid, and perhaps it interferes with our daily life or our general quality of life.

Unlike fears, phobias have no known source of origin. Some examples of common phobias are heights, flying, the dark, impending danger and the loss of control. These often develop later in life- generally late teens to early adulthood. The most common way that a phobia develops is when a person is experiencing a heightened state of anxiety, and then associates that feeling with whatever information/experience is in front of them.

For example, you can be boarding a plane and then have a blood sugar crash, in turn associating that anxiety or panic with the plane or flying because of where you are. In reality, you’re having a blood sugar crash, all the while your mind is telling you that you’re now afraid to fly because it has to make sense of the situation. This is a natural response that our mind makes, and subconsciously it’s to help protect us. Though consciously it’s actually hurting us. Now you’re afraid to fly and you don’t travel to places you’ve always wanted to go, because of a mere association your mind made.

So do you live with these fears and/or phobias and let them dictate your life, or do you do something about it so that you can live more freely and joyously?

There are several hypnotic techniques that can be used to dramatically decrease the power these fears/phobias have over your life. You can change the associations in your mind from fear, to indifference, to calm or even to enjoyment. You can be desensitized to them, so that they no longer hold power over you.

I had a client that was afraid of heights and after 4 sessions of us working together, this is what she had to say-

For as long as I can remember I've had a debilitating fear of heights that has kept me from going on many adventures I want to try, or has added a level of discomfort to an otherwise enjoyable experience. Recently I moved to a mountainous area so it seemed like a perfect time to try to get rid of this phobia. After just four sessions with Vi my fear is almost completely gone. I can drive down narrow, twisty mountain roads without feeling sick, I can walk to the edge of a cliff and look down without getting dizzy! My experience with Black Cat Hypnosis has been life changing. Highly recommend you go see Vi for whatever may be holding you back. Now to try zip lining!” -Summer, CO

When we gain control over our fears or phobias, and ultimately our frame of mind, it can change our lives for the better. Life is too short to avoid things we love or want to experience in the name of fear. What would your life look like, free of fear?
